Dr. Luder Whitlock Appointed to John Jay Institute's Board of Governors

The John Jay Institute's Board of Governors appointed the Rev. Dr. Luder G. Whitlock, Jr. to a four-year term on its board. In this capacity Dr. Whitlock will join the other governors as a fiduciary for the organization.

Colorado Springs, CO (Issues Wire / PRWEB) March 12, 2008 -- By a unanimous vote, the John Jay Institute's Board of Governors appointed the Rev. Dr. Luder G. Whitlock, Jr. to a four-year term on its board. In this capacity Dr. Whitlock will join the other governors as a fiduciary for the organization.

Named for the American founder, the John Jay Institute is a para-academic center dedicated to the development of principled leaders for the future of American public life. Headquartered in Colorado Springs, the Institute runs an academic fellowship for rising law, government, and divinity students with field placements in Washington, D.C., various state capitals, and international political centers around the world.

"The John Jay Institute is effectively addressing the crisis of leadership in America today, forming articulate, principled leaders for the public square. This is a goal that resonates in the core of my personal calling so I am delighted to help the John Jay Institute team advance this great cause," said Dr. Whitlock.

Upon Dr. Whitlock's appointment to the Board of Governors Institute President Alan Crippen said, "Dr. Whitlock is an educational entrepreneur of vision, creativity, imagination, and innovation with a proven and enduring track record in institutional leadership and governance. The John Jay Institute is honored to have him join its governing board."

Recently Dr. Whitlock was named a Senior Fellow of the Trinity Forum in Washington, D.C. Previously he served that organization as its executive director since 2003. Dr. Whitlock also works with Excelsis, an Orlando-based nonprofit.

Prior to his work with the Trinity Forum and Excelsis Dr. Whitlock served as president of Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS). Under his leadership, RTS grew from a small regional school to one of the most innovative as well as one of the ten largest seminaries in North America with seven campuses in the U.S. as well as gateway extension programs in Asia, South America, and Europe. In addition to his service on numerous church, ministry, and missions related boards and advisory councils for religious non-profit organizations, Dr. Whitlock also helped establish the Greater Orlando Leadership Foundation, a highly successful model for training emerging civic leaders in a city.

Dr. Whitlock is well known for his role as executive director of The New Geneva Study Bible and a major revision, published as The Spirit of the Reformation Study Bible. He is the author of The Spiritual Quest and has contributed to more than twenty other volumes and twenty different periodicals. He served on the editorial council of Eternity magazine and the advisory board for the English Standard Version of the Bible. He also serves on the editorial advisory board of Leadership.

Dr. Whitlock is a graduate of the University of Florida, Westminster Theological Seminary, and Vanderbilt University. He and his wife, Mary Lou, have three grown children and eleven grandchildren.
