World Book's Second Annual You Be the Judge Lets You Vote on the 2009 Encyclopedia Design

World Book invites you to vote for your favorite design for the 2009 World Book Encyclopedia Spinescape through March 31, 2008; eligible voters also will be entered into a drawing to win a set of The 2009 World Book Encyclopedia, featuring the winning Spinescape

Chicago, IL (Issues Wire / PRWEB) March 10, 2008 -- Back by popular demand, millions of World Book readers will again have the chance to decide the Spinescape image used for the 2009 World Book Encyclopedia by casting their vote in World Book's You Be the Judge event, being held online at http://vote.worldbook.com. The Spinescape is World Book's trademarked method of printing a unique image across the spine of the 22-volume encyclopedia set.

"Individuals that pick up an encyclopedia volume to look up specific information often find themselves visiting other entries, drawn in by interesting facts and images," said Patti Ginnis, chief marketing officer of World Book. "With the Spinescape, seeing the outer image draws them to the set and helps them discover new information even before they open a volume."

With the Spinescape, seeing the outer image draws them to the set and helps them discover new information even before they open a volume.
For the 2009 set, individuals from around the world can vote for their favorite Spinescape among four rich images designed to encourage readers to learn and explore more about their world:

  • Grace in Movement, championing the importance of physical activity in combating childhood obesity.
  • Portraits of Greatness, showcasing iconic figures that have inspired people throughout history, from Shakespeare to Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Diversity of Life, underscoring the importance of protecting wildlife and preserving fragile ecosystems that are essential to the integrity of life on Earth.
  • Feeding the World, commemorating agricultural efforts worldwide that hold great promise for alleviating hunger and poverty as the world population continues to increase.
Since 1999, World Book has been offering readers a choice between the classic one-color leather-bound set and the imagery of the Spinescape. Starting last year, readers were asked to choose the design they liked best for the Spinescape version, choosing for the 2008 World Book Encyclopedia a Global City image, which showcases a composite urban skyline to recognize the fact that for the first time in history the majority of people on the planet now live in cities.

Votes for the 2009 Spinescape can be cast at http://vote.worldbook.com through March 31, 2008. The winning Spinescape will be posted on the World Book site on August 1, 2008. The World Book Encyclopedia 2009 featuring the winning Spinescape will be available in November 2008. Voters also can enter a drawing to win The World Book Encyclopedia 2009. See the World Book site (www.worldbookonline.com) for further detail.
