We have made great progress toward implementing the control measures identified in the 2007 State Implementation Plan (SIP) by April, and we look forward to reaching our goal of consistent attainment in 2008.
According to data collected by Doe Run, the company’s 10 air monitoring stations in Herculaneum ranged from 0.2 to 1.4 micrograms of lead per cubic meter of air, placing the smelter within the Environmental Protection Agency-specified air quality standard of 1.5 micrograms of lead per cubic meter of air (averaged over a calendar quarter).

“We are pleased to have achieved the ambient air quality standard at all of our monitoring stations for the fourth quarter,” said Gary Hughes, general manager of Doe Run’s Herculaneum smelter. “We have made great progress toward implementing the control measures identified in the 2007 State Implementation Plan (SIP) by April, and we look forward to reaching our goal of consistent attainment in 2008.”

The SIP is a process used throughout the United States to improve air quality and help achieve federal air standards – in this case, for lead. Doe Run has made steady progress on design, engineering and procurement of the measures called for in the SIP.
