Ecos-Designed Programs Score Two ENERGY STAR® Awards

EPA Salutes Two Regional Utilities for Outstanding Energy-Savings Programs Created by Portland-Based Marketing and Consulting Firm

Portland, Ore. (Issues Wire / PRWEB) March 13, 2008 -- Two Southwestern utilities received ENERGY STAR Awards from the Environmental Protection Agency for programs designed and captained by Ecos, a specialist in energy efficiency and climate and sustainability.

Rocky Mountain Power received the 2008 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for Excellence in Program Delivery for its New Homes Program. EPA tapped the utility for the award in recognition of its work to boost market share of energy-efficient ENERGY STAR qualified homes through Ecos’ comprehensive outreach, education and marketing programs.

Partners like Rocky Mountain Power and Nevada Power are leading the way by showing Americans how they can protect our environment through energy efficiency
In 2007, Rocky Mountain Power received an Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion Award for the program, which since its inception has resulted in ENERGY STAR certification for 4,083 new homes, resulting in energy savings of more than 7 million kilowatt hours.

Nevada Power won EPA’s 2008 Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion for its residential lighting program. The award honors an Ecos-designed and -managed program that promotes products which meet ENERGY STAR guidelines for energy efficiency. Since the program was launched in 2003, sales of compact fluorescent lights in the Nevada Power service territory have grown to more than 3.3 million, and annual kilowatt hour savings are approaching 208 million.

Nevada Power won the same award in 2005 for its Hispanic Outreach campaign, which was also designed and overseen by Ecos.

“It has been a sincere pleasure working with these amazing clients. They deserve the credit for pushing the envelope of creativity in program design and implementation. They’ve allowed us to reach higher, do more and stretch the boundaries of what’s possible in this complex environment of conservation,” says Alan Bouris, vice president of Energy Efficiency Solutions at Ecos.

“Partners like Rocky Mountain Power and Nevada Power are leading the way by showing Americans how they can protect our environment through energy efficiency,” said Robert J. Meyers, principal deputy assistant administrator for EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. “By promoting ENERGY STAR, these utilities are making it easy for consumers to find energy-efficient products in the marketplace.”

EPA ENERGY STAR award winners are selected from more than 9,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program for their efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution, leading to cost savings. This year’s recipients will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., on April 1.
