VetFriends.com Honors Veterans and Remembers Feb. 23, 1945 - The Raising of the Flag at Iwo Jima

VetFriends.com -- the largest Web site reuniting and supporting U.S. military veterans -- has created a World War II and Iwo Jima remembrance photo page at www.vetfriends.com/militarypics -- dedicated to all who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II and moreover throughout history.

Charleston, SC (Issues Wire / PRWEB) February 23, 2008 -- On Feb. 23, 1945, U.S. soldiers seized Mount Suribachi, the highest point of Iwo Jima Island. This major victory at the Battle of Iwo Jima secured a valuable aircraft base for the U.S. and was a sign of impending defeat for Japan in World War II. Five Marines of Company E along with a Navy corpsman raised the U.S. flag -- the first foreign flag to fly on Japanese soil.

VetFriends.com -- the largest Web site reuniting and supporting U.S. military veterans -- has created a World War II veteran remembrance photo page at www.vetfriends.com/militarypics - dedicated to all who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, Iwo Jima and moreover throughout history.

A couple of months after posting my photo, I received an e-mail from VetFriends.com saying someone was trying to get in touch with me. It turned out to be the photographer of my picture and a friend. . .We have since been exchanging e-mails and he has even added a few pictures of his own to VetFriends.com too...It was fantastic to hear from him. Thank you VetFriends.com!
"Everyone here at VetFriends.com has taken a moment to reflect and express our deepest respect and gratitude to the courage, bravery and patriotism of our Iwo Jima and World War II veterans, along with all of our veterans and military. We encourage the community to do the same and visit our photo tribute collection," says VetFriends.com founder and U.S. Veteran Dale F. Sutcliffe.

The VetFriends.com photo collection is made up of authentic pictures submitted by U.S. veterans, active military, family and friends -- depicting service buddies laughing side by side, brothers and sisters in arms proudly wearing the uniform, military class photos, heroes carrying our flag and many other powerful images.

Furthermore, visitors can search for photos by specific military branch, year, war, state and country. Each picture at www.vetfriends.com/militarypics contains background information along with a brief message or description. Additionally, an "e-mail reply option" is available with each photo, where users can send thank you comments, questions and information requests to the person who submitted the photo.

Special bonds are developed amongst service members unlike any other connections, due to the unique and often difficult circumstances under which they were formed in the military. With this in mind, the mission of VetFriends.com is to honor, support & reunite our veterans and military.

After reuniting with a service buddy with the resources at VetFriends.com, Marine Corps Veteran, K. David Herbert writes to VetFriends.com:

"A couple of months after posting my photo, I received an e-mail from VetFriends.com saying someone was trying to get in touch with me. It turned out to be the photographer of my picture and a friend. . .We have since been exchanging e-mails and he has even added a few pictures of his own to VetFriends.com too...It was fantastic to hear from him. Thank you VetFriends.com!"

On Feb. 23 and all year long, VetFriends.com is devoted to honoring, supporting and reuniting veterans and active military of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard -- all heroes of our nation.

www.VetFriends.com currently has over 843,000 members nationwide, attracting over 150,000 visitors per month to the Web site.
