Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic Goes "Green"

The Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic is premiering as only the second "green" and carbon neutral celebrity golf tournament in the United States. NBC's "Friday Night Lights" actors Brad Leland and Kyle Chandler host, Tim McGraw entertains, charities are Gridiron Heroes and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis/The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.

Austin, TX (Issues Wire / PRWEB) February 7, 2008 -- The Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic is premiering as only the second "green" and carbon neutral celebrity golf tournament in the United States. At 11:00am, March 7, 2008, 150 golfers including 30 celebrities will take to the green at Wolfdancer Golf Club for charity in Austin, Texas.

Beyond the Lights Chair Heather Page and staff have committed themselves to being environmentally aware in the planning of the event and through their choices of supplies and vendors. The Golf Classic is working with Charles Wagner, President of the Austin startup, MoveNeutral.com, to estimate the "carbon footprint" arising from venue energy use, vehicle consumptions, and player and attendee travel. The Tournament and MoveNeutral will then negate the impact of these estimated emissions by purchasing 50 short tons of "carbon offsets" from NativeEnergy. These offsets will be used to support American-owned renewable energy projects, thereby curbing future carbon emissions.

According to Heather Page, the tournament is applying more mainstream environmentally friendly products and concepts to its golf event. "For example, a Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, "Green Car of the Year" by Green Car Journal, provided by Capitol Chevrolet of Austin, is the prize for a hole-in-one. We are using French Paper Company's recycled paper stock, manufactured with 100% clean, renewable hydroelectric energy produced at its mill, and the publications use hazelnut oil inks in their printing. Our office for the event subscribes to the Austin Energy Green Choice Program and we are committed to recycling and minimizing waste as a way to lessen the event's impact on the environment."

The event chose the Wolfdancer Golf Club, located at Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa, because it is a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses. The program helps golf courses protect the environment while preserving the natural heritage of the game of golf. Wolfdancer works closely with the Lower Colorado River Authority, which runs the McKinney Roughs Nature Park adjacent to the course, to ensure the integrity and longevity of the river.

The tournament, hosted by actors Brad Leland and Kyle Chandler of NBC 's critically acclaimed series "Friday Night Lights", also features a private performance by "Friday Night Lights" feature film actor and country superstar Tim McGraw. The event benefits the Gridiron Heroes and the Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis/The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis.
