Water District Receives Dual ISO Certifications

Commitment to excellence earns dual ISO certifications.

San Jose (Issues Wire / Vocus) January 30, 2008 -- The Santa Clara Valley Water District has received ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 certifications, confirming its position as a world-class organization.

The certificates were issued by BSI Management Systems, the world's largest ISO certification body.

Presenting the certificates on Tuesday, BSI's vice president of sales western region, Pat C. Arace, said "ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 are two of the most recognized management systems standards in the world."

"Santa Clara Valley Water District has taken its organization to the next level by not only implementing these quality and environmental systems, but also undergoing and successfully passing an in-depth, third-party assessment performed by BSI," Arace added.

Arace said that the water district is an example of an agency that has outstanding internal collaboration and an enhanced business focus, which allows it to reduce duplication of work and ultimately reduce costs. These are the results of the district management's continuous effort to work together.

The water district implemented these ISO processes to increase its focus on customers (ISO 9001) and environmental stewardship (ISO 14001). ISO has provided the water district with the framework needed for maintaining its focus on quality and environmental stewardship while being as efficient as possible in providing water supply and flood protection in Santa Clara County.

"The water district board of directors and the employees are committed to quality and environmental stewardship and this successful certification is part of an agency-wide team effort that we are proud of," said the water district CEO Olga Martin Steele.

The Santa Clara Valley Water District manages wholesale drinking water resources and provides stewardship for the county's watersheds, including 10 reservoirs, hundreds of miles of streams and groundwater basins. The water district also provides flood protection throughout Santa Clara County.
