Kentucky Organization Plans to Lobby for Better Access to Heath Insurance for Dependants

Kentucky Equality Federation will be lobbying the legislature to define a domestic-partner as "any person who is a dependant of the employee."

Lexington, KY (Issues Wire / PRWEB) November 16, 2007 -- Kentucky Equality Federation today released an initiative it plans to lobby in Frankfort during the 2008 General Assembly. The overall objective of the plan is to help more than 564,000 Kentuckians without health insurance gain coverage by officially defining the commonwealth's definition of "domestic-partner."

"In a time when 564,000 Kentucky citizens are without health insurance coverage of any kind, we believe it's time our elected officials take action," stated Kentucky Equality Federation President Jordan Palmer. "With healthcare cost rising, it's amazing that some legislatures seek to eliminate insurance coverage for dependants of covered workers."

This isn't about unmarried couples, homosexuality, or religion, it's about our elected officials stepping up to the plate and doing what's in the best interests of their constituents
Kentucky Equality Federation will be lobbying the legislature to define a domestic-partner as "any person who is a dependant of the employee." Kentucky Equality Federation is also asking the legislature to give employers some type of monetary consideration for offering domestic-partner benefits.

"This isn't about unmarried couples, homosexuality, or religion, it's about our elected officials stepping up to the plate and doing what's in the best interests of their constituents," stated Palmer.
