Caspio Develops Hyper-Local Voter Guide for Gannett's Ohio Newspaper Group

Announces availability of 2008 Voter Guide for seamless integration into media web sites.

Mountain View, CA (Issues Wire / PRWEB) November 14, 2007 -- Caspio, Inc., provider of the leading on-demand platform for web applications, today announced the recent success of a comprehensive online voter guide for 10 community newspapers owned by Gannett. In a joint initiative, the Newspaper Network of Central Ohio (NNCO) utilized Caspio's application platform and development services to launch a hyper-local voter guide for its newspaper web sites as part of their coverage of the 2007 General Election.

"This is the most ambitious election project we've ever undertaken," said Michael Shearer, Online and Audience Development Editor for the NNCO and managing editor of The Advocate newspaper and NewarkAdvocate.com. "The results are tremendous - both in civic service to our readers and web traffic generated from the application."

The turn-key application provided an automated system for the NNCO to invite candidates to enter their personal biographies, upload photos, address key campaign issues, and answer specific questions posed by the newspapers. The candidate profiles and positions were then published through automatic and interactive interfaces on NNCO web sites (http://www.newarkadvocate.com/voterguide) for citizens to access.

Web site users can review, compare and select their preferred candidates and ballot initiatives, plus print a personalized ballot to take to the election polls. Additionally, Caspio provided NNCO with reverse-publishing tools to convert the online database into traditional page format for print editions.

Shearer estimates the voter guide generated more than 250,000 page views in the month leading up to the November election, accounting for a significant increase in traffic for the smaller circulation papers that comprise the group. In addition to the voter guide, the NNCO utilized Caspio on their web sites to publish campaign contributions made to the candidates.

Beginning December 1, Caspio will offer its 2008 Voter Guide system to newspapers and online media that are seeking local, county, state and federal coverage for the upcoming election year. The 2008 Voter Guide will seamlessly integrate into any existing web site structure, content and design. The application will be offered as an annual subscription with pricing based on circulation and market size.
